Aherne Thomas Andrew AKA Albert Shaw
Born 1882 Hobart Tasmania the son of Patrick John and Mary Agness Ahearne (nee Ayton a miner he embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” under the name of Albert Shaw with the 26th Infantry Battalion.
He served in Gallipoli and was returned to Australia for three months rest on board “Kanowna” because of enteric fever and re-embarked with the 40th Battalion. He was promoted in the field to Lance Corporal on the 3rd February 1917
He was killed in action 13th May 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated in the Strand Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert, Hainaut, Belgium.
