Allen, Edwin
Born 12th September 1889 Glamorgan Tasmania to Egbert and Lucy Allen (nee Thornbury) a farmer who departed Hobart 1st. July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. His brother Paul was also on the same ship. He was killed in action 28th July 1917 and buried in the Kandahar Farm Cemetery, Belgium. His brother, Pte Paul Allen (No 108) died from wounds received in the field 3rd April 1917 and was buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery Ovillers-La Boisselle, France. A Koonya correspondent writes- The sad news of the death of Private Edwin Allen at the front was conveyed by Mr M Wilson to his parents at Taranna, Mr and Mrs E Allen on Saturday. He is the third out of the four boys in the family who has laid down his life on behalf of those enjoying peace, safety and home comforts Many expressions of sympathy have been heard everywhere for Mr and Mrs Allen on their bereavement The Mercury 17th August 1917
