Anderson, Benjamin

 

He was born Hobart Tasmania to Robert and Rebecca Anderson (nee Peoples) a farm worker who embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion.

 He was killed in action 3rd September 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Private Benjamin Anderson, aged 20 was killed in the action at Mouquet Farm, a place of double family tragedy for the next day it was his brother, Private Robert James Bertram (Bert) Anderson, 28, killed there.

Mr. and Mrs. R. Anderson, North Hobart, have received official notice from the military authorities that their son, Private Benjamin Anderson was killed in action, in France, between the 3rd and 4th of September. Private Anderson served five months on Gallipoli. News has been received that Bert Anderson, his brother, has now been reported missing from September 4.
