If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

Arnol, George Michael

Born 16th September 1893 Spring Bay, Tasmania to William and Julia Arnol (nee Lahey) he was single and a labourer when he enlisted.  He departed Hobart 1st. July 1916 on the “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion

He was promoted to Corporal 6th April 1918 and was killed in action 12th April 1918.

Mrs. Arnol of Hobart has received the following letter from Lieutenant D. Alexander:

"Dear Mrs. Arnol,-I am writing to express my sorrow in the death of your son George who had been with me since we left, and had always done good work. I had just got him promoted to temporary corporal when he was hit. It was a piece of flying bomb which penetrated his dug-out but the poor boy did not suffer. All the boys of the platoon join me in sincere sympathy. He was liked and respected throughout the company and we feel his loss very much on account of his good services as a non-commissioned officer."
