"Dear Mrs.
Arnol,-I am
writing to express my sorrow in the
death of your son
George
who had been
with me since we left, and had always
done good work. I had just got him
promoted to temporary corporal when
he was hit. It was a piece of flying
bomb which penetrated his dug-out but
the poor boy did not suffer. All the
boys of the platoon join me in sincere
sympathy. He was liked and respected
throughout the company and we feel
his loss very much on account The Mercury 27th August 1918
