Arnott, Lochnel James H
Born 12th February 1889 Sheffield Tasmania the son of Robert Henry and Eva Isobel Arnott (nee Byard) a clerk he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.
He died 31st August 1918 (age 19) at sea on board hospital ship Karoola on the way back to Tasmania from tubercular meningitis and was buried at sea. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux,
The Rev. G. Howe, of Devonport yesterday conveyed the sad intelligence to Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Arnott that their son Pte. L. J. H. Arnott had died of tubercular meningitis. Pte Arnott who was a member of the 40tn Battalion was reported some time ago to be dangerously ill from this disease. The North Western Advocate 6th September 1918
