The sad news is to hand that Sergeant Arthur Shoobridge Atkins was killed in action on October 4th. Prior to his enlistment he was an orchardist at Wattle Grove and a member of the Port Cygnet Council in which he did much valuable work and was very popular with his fellow councillors. Like so many of our brave fellows, he made great sacrifices to volunteer having a large orchard and farm, but he eventually succeeded in arranging with a neighbour to look after the property and went into camp. He leaves a widow and young family. The Weekly Courier 1st November 1917
