Ayers, William Bruce

 

 

 

 

Studio portrait of 1153 Private (Pte) William Bruce Ayers, 15th Battalion from Avoca, Tasmania. An 18 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 22 September 1914, he embarked for overseas with H Company from Melbourne on 22 December 1914 aboard HMAT Ceramic. While serving with the battalion at Gallipoli, he was killed in action on 9 May 1915 at Lone Pine. Pte Ayers is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
