Bailey, John Arthur Alexander
Born 18th July 1895 Longford Tasmania to Alexander and Edith Bailey (nee Perkins) a labourer who embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment. He was killed in action 28th May 1915 Monash Valley on the Gallipoli Peninsula and was buried in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. Private J. A. A. (Jack) Bailey, aged 20, reported killed in action was the eldest son of Mrs E Bailey formerly of 26 George Street, and now of 25 Race Course Crescent Launceston was a grandson of Mr John Perkins of Longford. He was one of the first young men to offer his services to the Empire. Prior to enlisting he was employed by the Marine Board for some considerable time. The Weekly Courier 24th June 1915
