Bannister, Herbert Claude

 

 

 

 

 

Born Glenorchy Tasmania the son of George Henry and Susan Bannister (nee Baggott) Bannister a railway clerk he embarked Melbourne 22nd December 1916 on board “HMAT Persic” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 

He was killed in action 23rd April 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Meteren Military Cemetery, Meteren, Nord Pas de Calais, France

Official word has been received by Mr. and Mrs George Bannister of Johnson Street, Derwent Park, Tasmania, that their oldest son, Private Herbert Claude (Bert) Bannister, 12th Battalion (previously reported missing), was killed in action in France on April 23, 1918.
