Baring, Charles Alexander
Charles Baring was born 11th January1893, the son of Rev. Francis Henry and Amy Baring, of ‘Marchdyke’, Chandler’s Ford, Hampshire. He was born at King’s Worthy, Hampshire. His father was listed as a Rector in Suffolk in 1896. His brothers 2nd Lt Cecil Christopher, 2nd Lt Reginald Arthur and Lance Corporal Ernest (No 1756) also lost their lives serving their country and are remembered on the Sudbury War Memorial. He enlisted at Triabunna, Tasmania, Australia was a farmer who had spent 3 years at the Hawkesbury College of Agriculture and departed Melbourne 29th March 1916 aboard RMS Orontes with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was posted as missing. A Court of Enquiry dated 24th April 1917 found he was killed in action on 4th September 1916 at Moquet Farm aged 23. There is no known grave and he is remembered on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Somme, France.
