Studio portrait of 3573 Private (Pte) Clifford Aubrey Barnes, 11th Reinforcements, 15th Battalion, of King Island, Tas. Pte Barnes enlisted on 13 August 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses on 27 October 1915. He returned to Australia on 5 April 1919 and died on 14 June 1919 at Caulfield, Vic

 

Pte Clifford Aubrey Barnes, 15th Battalion, from King Island, Tasmania who enlisted on 13 August 1915 at the age of 19 was captured at Reincourt, France, on 11 April 1917 and held in various POW camps in Germany.  He was repatriated to England in the first half of December 1918 and arrived back in Australia between March and June 1919. Two months after returning to Australia, Pte Barnes died of influenza on 14 June 1919. O
