Barwick, William
Born 25th December 1887 Oatlands Tasmania the son of Thomas Graves and Frances Amelia Barwick a 28 year old farmer from Claremont he embarked Melbourne 20th October 1916 on board “HMAT Port Lincoln” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He died 18th January 1919 from heart failure and was buried Port Said Egypt.

'In the attack on POLYGON WOOD, east of YPRES, on 20/21st
September, 1917, Pte. BARWICK was in charge of a bombing
section and showed great skill and courage in leading
his men in the adbvance. During consolidation, he worked
unceasingly for the whole of the day, frequently under
machine gun and sniper's fire. During the night, he
volunteered to guide and assist stretcher bearers in
carrying wounded under heavy shell fire. His behaviour
throughout was a splendid example of courage and
devotion to duty.'
