Benjafield, Eric William
He was born 7th October 1893 LatrobeTasmania to Frederick William and Clara Jane Benjafield (nee Thomas) a civil servant who departed Melbourne 3rd October 1916 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the Australian Field Artillery. He received gunshot wounds to the left thigh, right arm and head and was admitted to the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station 14th April 1917 and he died from these wounds the same day and was buried in the Grevillers British Cemetery, France. Word was received in Devonport last night of the death of Pte Eric Benjafield; son of Mr. F. W Benjafield post master of Devonport. Deceased was only 23 years of age and was formerly employed in the Customs Department in Hobart and Melbourne. He enlisted in Victoria and had been away nine months. He was killed in France on April 14.
