Bennett, Hughie George

Born 1898 Launceston Tasmania the son of George and Mary Cecilia Bennett (nee McMahon) a bricklayer he embarked Melbourne 9^th September 1915 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 3^rd Field Artillery Brigade.

He served with the 92^nd Infantry for 2 years and also served on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

He was serving with the Australian (Howitzer) Battery when he was killed in action 7^th August 1916 at Pozieres France and is commemorated in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers la Boisselle, Picardie, France
