Bennett, Hughie George
Born 1898 Launceston Tasmania the son of George and Mary Cecilia Bennett (nee McMahon) a bricklayer he embarked Melbourne 9th September 1915 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. He served with the 92nd Infantry for 2 years and also served on the Gallipoli Peninsula. He was serving with the Australian (Howitzer) Battery when he was killed in action 7th August 1916 at Pozieres France and is commemorated in the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers la Boisselle, Picardie, France
