Binns Percy
Born 27th January 1892 Wilsden Yorkshire England the son of Aethelbert and Ann Binns (nee Fryer) he arrived in Australia 18th November 1907 on the ship “Bremen” and was working in Hobart Tasmania as a printing canvasser he enlisted and embarked Sydney 14th June 1917 on board “HMAT Hororata” with the 2nd Infantry Battalion and the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
He was on patrol at Creepy Wood east of Harbonnieres when he rushed a German outpost and was shot in the face by a revolver bullet just as he reached the parapet on 13th August 1918. His body was never recovered. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Villers-Bretonneux Area, France Mr Percy Binns formerIy of "The Mercury" commercial staff and at one time advertising manager for Messrs. Brownell Bros now stationed at the Liverpool Camp, Sydney, has passed his lieutenancy examination, after a course of training at the Duntroon Military College. He has been in camp over nine months and resigned a good position as advertising manager for Messrs McDowell and Hughes, Sydney, in order to join the forces. The Mercury 14th April 1917
