Blackett, Howard

Born 14^th October 1886 Port Sorell Tasmania the son of William Alexander and Margaret Blackett (nee Madden) a farmer he embarked Hobart 20^th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12^th Infantry Battalion.  At the time of his enlistment both parents were deceased and he named his brother William Blackett as his next of kin.

He was killed in action 2^nd May 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.

His sister Alice Maude Blackett served with the 1^st Australian General Hospital and returned to Australia 14^th September 1918.  She later became Matron at the Mount Lyell Hospital.
