Blackett, Howard

 

 

Born 14th October 1886 Port Sorell Tasmania the son of William Alexander and Margaret Blackett (nee Madden) a farmer he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.  At the time of his enlistment both parents were deceased and he named his brother William Blackett as his next of kin.

 

He was killed in action 2nd May 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.

 

His sister Alice Maude Blackett served with the 1st Australian General Hospital and returned to Australia 14th September 1918.  She later became Matron at the Mount Lyell Hospital.
