Blackmore, Henry
Born 1889 Newcastle New South Wales the son of William Horatio and Barbara Blackmore (nee Beckworth) of Kardella Victoria a farmer he enlisted Claremont Tasmania and embarked Melbourne 21st August 1915 on board “HMAT Kyarra” with the 15th Infantry Battalion. He was a driver with the 47th Battalion when he was accidentally killed 12th April 1917 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France A Court of Enquiry held in the field found 1 That 2726 Driver Blackmore 47th Battalion AIF was killed accidentally by the explosion of a “Mills” bomb at the Refinery near Bullecourt on the morning of April 12th 1917. 2 That the explosion was caused through a fire having been lit on a buried bomb. 3 That all ordinary precautions had been taken and no blame is attachable to anyone. 4 That the bomb that caused the explosion had been left at the Refinery by some troops who had previously occupied the camp.
