of William Jonathon and Isabella Blake (nee Ball)
married to Eva Rolls a mail carrier he embarked Hobart
Tasmania 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT
Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.
He was promoted to Lance Corporal 5th March
1917. After a series of illnesses he returned to
Australia on board HT “Ascanius” 9 February 1919;
disembarked Hobart, 26 March 1919. He was discharged as
medically unfit 5th June 1919.
He died 5th August 1920 from heart failure
and was buried in the
Bothwell Public Cemetery, Bothwell, Tasmania, Australia
It
is with extreme regret that I have to chronicle the
death of Lindsay William Blake son of Mr William Blake
of Bothwell. Deceased has suffered practically since
his return from doing service with the 40th
Battalion at the front (heart trouble). He has been
continuously under doctors and recently proceeded to the
Campbell Town hospital for medical attention at the
hands of Dr Moorhead but to no avail, as he gradually
became worse and died last Thursday morning. The body
was conveyed to Bothwell where the burial took place
Saturday afternoon last. The cortege was about the
largest seen in the district. Members of the Druids and
Masonic lodges together with a fair muster of returned
soldiers followed the remains. The service was
conducted in the English church and at the graveside by
the Reverend W Greenwood who made feeling reference to
the deceased. The late Mr Blake leaves a wife and one
child. The sympathy of the district goes out to the
widow and relatives.
