Blizzard, James Lewis

 

Born 16th August 1892 Stanley Tasmania the son of James and Lucy Jane Blizzard (nee Dobson) and married to Lucy Louisa Enniss a labourer of Montague River Tasmania he embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. 

He had only arrived in France when he was admitted to hospital with scarlet fever and didn’t rejoin his battalion until 10th January 1917. 

He was killed in action 5th October 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. 

Word has been received at Stanley of the death in France of Privates Eric Blizzard and James Blizzard. Both were natives of Forest. The last-named was married and he was well known as a footballer.
