Portrait of 2901 Private (Pte) William Bond, 12th Battalion, of Ranelagh, Tas. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Bond embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata on 27th September 1915. Between the 23rd and 25th July 1916 he was killed in action in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. His two brothers, 4763 Pte Francis John Bond and 2011 Pte Richard Bond were also killed in action.
