Bowen, Percy James Born 1884 Launceston Tasmania the son of James and Susannah Bowen (nee Bresnahan) a painter he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. He enlisted 26th August 1914, was promoted Temporal Corporal 1st September 1916 and Corporal 26th October 1916. He was killed in action 14th November 1916 at Flers in France when he was hit by a shell. He is commemorated in the AIF Burial Ground, Flers, Albert Bapaume Area, France TASMANIAN CASUALTIES News was received by the Rev. R. N. Banker that Corporal P. J. Bowen eldest son of Mr. J. Bowen, of H.M Customs, was killed in action on October 10. He enlisted in Hobart two years ago, and served at Gallipoli and then in France, where he received his stripes. The late soldier resided in Hobart for a number of years. He was a member of the Cananore Football Club. Corporal Bowen's only brother is on active service. His younger brother, Private Bowen, died in Hobart six months ago. Examiner Launceston 7th December 1916
