Brain Gilbert John

 

 

Born 23rd July 1874 Richmond Tasmania to William and Letitia Brain (nee Lamb) a pastoralist who embarked Melbourne 26th October 1916 on board “HMAT Ulysses” with the 12 Machine Gun Company.

 

He was killed 9th August 1917 at Messines when he was lifting a box of ammunition from the parapet of the trench to place it in the gun pit when a shell burst and he was struck in the chest and died instantly.

 He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium
