Branley, John Mulkeedis
Born 12th December 1894 Launceston Tasmania the son of Patrick and Theresa Branley (nee McMahon) a baker he embarked Melbourne 29th March 1916 on board RMS Orontes with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He was serving with the 52nd Battalion when he was killed in action at Brookseinde Ridge when he was hit in the head by shellfire. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium
Advice has been received by Mrs P Branley of New Plymouth New Zealand formerly of Launceston Tasmania that her eldest son Jack was killed in action in France on October 16th. Private Branley sailed from Hobart. He was wounded twice and suffered from shell shock and was sent to hospital in England.
He was only about a month back in the firing line when he was killed. His brother, W.A Branley sailed from Hobart but returned in December 1916. He is now residing with his parents in New Zealand.
