Brown, Marcus Blake Norman
Born 1895 Cape Barren Island to Henry William and Mary Olive Brown (nee Everett) and a great grandson of Woreternemerunnertatteyane and Thomas Beeton, a labourer he embarked Melbourne 21st October 1916 on board “HMAT Port Melbourne” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. The Battalion was sent to Oosthove Farm in Belgium ready for the battle of Messines. The 40th Battalion lost 317 casualties among them Pte Marcus Brown who died at the 11th Stationary Hospital Rouen France from gunshot wounds to the wrist and left thigh on the 11th June 1917. He was buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
