Bruford Harry Russell
Born 3rd August 1883 Hobart Tasmania the son of Henry Buncombe and Mary Teulon Bruford (nee Beamish) a 32 year old mining engineer who embarked Brisbane 5th October 1915 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 3rd October 1918 whilst leading an attack on Belle Vue Farm and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. exceptionally good and consistent work through the days
of 5th and 6th November, 1916, under severely trying
conditions. He searched the German trenches for our
wounded and also the original No Man's Land, bringing
them in under severe sniping fire. He alone was
responsible for bringing in 3 wounded men to the
original front line trenches from No Man's Land.' His brother Alex Tenlon Beamish BRUFORD, 26th Bn, died of wounds, Bapaume, France, 26 March 1917
