Button, James
Born 6th September 1885 Perth Tasmania to William and Anna Button (nee Oakley) a farmer he departed Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.Corporal Button was killed in action 13th October 1917 and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. The Rev. P. Shiner conveyed to Mr. and Mrs. Button, of Perth, on Monday morning the sad intelligence that their son, Corporal James Button, had been killed at the front. He was the seventh son. 'We desire to thank all members of the Perth Excelsior Tent of Independent Order of Rechabites, for the handsome enlarged photo of our late son and brother, Corporal James BUTTON, 40th Battalion, killed in action at Ypres. The esteem in which he was held by his brother members is greatly appreciated by me, as also that of my late eldest son, Pte. Alfred BUTTON, which was presented in 1900, he being a member of the same Tent and was killed in action in the Boer War at Josfontington (sic), South Africa. Please accept the sincere thanks of Mrs. William Button, senr., and family. Main Street, Perth.' The Examiner Sat 27 Nov 1920.
