Calvert, Horace Edward James
Born 27th March 1889 Ralphs Bay to Christopher and Margaret Calvert (nee Lawther) a farmer who departed Melbourne 24th August 1916 on board “HMAT Botanist” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He was severely wounded when a shell fell on the duckboards where he was walking at Messines resulting in the loss of a leg and other injuries. He was taken to the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station where he died 22nd December 1917 from his wounds. He is commemorated in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France
