Campbell Donald Angus MacKenzie
Born 27th March 1882 Gladstone Tasmania the son of Donald and Elizabeth Campbell (nee Bowen) a pastoralist and miner he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion bound for the Gallipoli Peninsula.
He died 28th July 1915 on board hospital ship “Sicilia” from a severe wound to the stomach and is commemorated in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Tal-Pieta, Malta. ROLL OF HONOUR. To the list of those who have laid down their lives for the Empire has to be added the name of Private Donald Angus MacKenzie Campbell, of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Australian Division, and the second son of Mr. und Mrs. Donald Campbell, of Boobyalla, and who died at Malta, on July 28 of a gunshot wound in the chest. Mr and Mrs Campbell received the sad news by telegram on Saturday, also a letter from a comrade in Alexandria. This comrade added, "Allow me, please, to add that Angus Campbell is a man right through. He has stood the greatest test on earth fire-and has proved sound right through. I have not the honour of knowing you, madame, but I say you have reason to be proud of him." Private Campbell before leaving Tasmania was engaged in mining pursuit.
