Cann Herbert Henry
Born 10th June 1891 Ulverstone Tasmania to William Henry and Emma Elizabeth Cann (nee Ellis) a farmer who embarked Melbourne 16th October 1915 on board “HMAT Port Lincoln” with the 15th Infantry Battalion. He was serving with the 47th Battalion when he was killed in action 6th August 1916 at Pozieres and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
The toll of war continues to press heavily upon the North-West Coast. Pte. H. H. Cann of Myalla is among the list of heroes who have made the supreme sacrifice. 'Bert' as he was called was one of the members of the Myalla Football Club and was very popular in the district. A melancholy coincidence is attached to the notification of deceased's death, in as much as it was on the second anniversary of her husband's death that the Rev. H. M. Knuckey had to break the sad tidings of her son's death to Mrs. Cann. The North Western Advocate 13th September 1916
