Carrington, Frederick Deacon

 

Born 21st November 1893 St Kilda Victoria to Frederick and Madge Carrington (nee Lees) but living in Tasmania and working as a clerk he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 25th April 1914 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. 

His brother Bevis Ody Carrington (No 850) was also killed in action 5th April 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Private Fred D. Carrington reported wounded is the eldest son of the late Captain Carrington who for many years commanded the SS Coogee trading between Melbourne and Launceston. Fred Carrington, who is well known in Launceston, was up till the time of his enlistment employed with the Tasmanian Woolgrowers' Agency Company Limited as clerk, having been with the firm for about six years. Bevis, his brother, has also enlisted with the Tasmanian reinforcements.
