Clark, Arthur
Born Ellendale Tasmania the son of George and Margaret Clark (nee McCallum) a farmer he embarked Melbourne 21st October 1916 on board “HMAT Port Melbourne” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.
He died 7th July 1917 at the 11th Casualty Clearing Station from wounds received in the field and was buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), Lille, Nord, France Our Ellendale correspondent writes: Mr. Geo. Clark, of Shamrock Valley Ellendale has received the sad news from the military authorities of the death of his son, Lance-Corporal Arthur Clark, aged 26 who died of enemy air craft wounds on the 7th inst at the 11th Casualty Station, France. Another son, Lance-Corporal Alfred Clark, aged 24 also died of wounds on the 7th of June in the 2nd Casualty Station, France. Both these young men were well esteemed and great favourites in the district and the greatest sympathy is felt for Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Clark and family in their double bereavement.
