Clarke, Frank Gordon

Born 25th July 1893 Ulverstone Tasmania to Ellis Steele and Theresa Clarke (nee Elliott

He departed Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 9th August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.

News has been received by Mrs. C. Webster, Penguin, of the death from wounds at Gallipoli on August 6 of her nephew, Private Frank Graham Clarke. He was one of the Gaba Tepe heroes being wounded in the memorable landing, but be soon recovered, and got back into the firing line again. Although a native of Penguin, he lived for some years at Burnie, where he was one of the first to enlist. His father (Mr. ellis Clarke) is a well-known resident of Zeehan at present. The late Corporal Arthur Webster who was killed in action on August 2, was another nephew of Mrs Webster who has thus lost two near relatives within a few days of each other.
