Clarke, John Joyce

 

 

Born Oxford England he enlisted Hobart Tasmania and named his father Harry Thomas Clarke of Abington England as his next of kin.  He embarked Hobart Tasmania 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Light Horse Brigade.

 

He had spent 5 years in the King Edward Horse Brigade in England and was working in Tasmania as a Warehouse Manager.

 

He died 15th August 1915 on board hospital ship “Guildford Castle” from a bullet to the neck received on the Gallipoli Peninsula and was buried at sea.  He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey
