Clerke, Arthur George

Born 16^th March 1896 Sheffield Tasmania the son of Thomas John and Ellen Nette Clerke (nee Best) a farmer who had served with the 26^th Australian Light Horse he embarked Hobart 8^th August 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 40^th Infantry Battalion.

On 28^th October 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant.

He was killed in action 3^rd January 1917 at Armentieres (previously reported missing) and is commemorated in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, Lille, France
