Clerke, Arthur George

 

 

Born 16th March 1896 Sheffield Tasmania the son of Thomas John and Ellen Nette Clerke (nee Best) a farmer who had served with the 26th Australian Light Horse he embarked Hobart 8th August 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.

 

On 28th October 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant.

 

He was killed in action 3rd January 1917 at Armentieres (previously reported missing) and is commemorated in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, Lille, France
