Cole, Sydney Roland
He was born Wynyard Tasmania the son of William and Ann Louise Cole, a clerk who first enlisted Wynyard and was returned to Australia September 1915 aboard “HMAT Themistocles” and was discharged. He re-enlisted and embarked 30th October 1917 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 40th Infantry Battalion and the rank of Sergeant. He died 13th September 1918 at the 9th General Hospital from a gunshot wound to the stomach and was buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. Mr and Mrs W H Cole Wynyard were advised yesterday that their son, Sergeant Sidney Cole, of the 40th Battalion, had died on September 9th from gunshot wounds in the abdomen The deceased soldier left Tasmania with the second contingent in 1914 was invalided home in September, 1915 and re-enlisted, leaving Tasmania in October last Another son of Mr and Mrs Cole (Wallie) was killed in action in France 12 months ago, and a third son is still on active service
