Colgrave, Roy Graham
Born 12th April 1896 Launceston Tasmania the son of Samuel and Jane Colgrave (nee Duncanson) a labourer he embarked Hobart 8th August 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died 19th January 1918 as a POW in Germany from Phthisis and is commemorated in the Hamburg Cemetery, Germany. The sacrifice voluntarily made by Private Roy Colgrave whose parents reside at Lower Turners Marsh is one of the many offered for the Empire and the cause of justice. That lad enlisted upon obtaining manhood’s estate, took part in fierce contests on the western front, by a mischance was taken prisoner in which confinement he is reported to have died of consumption and meningitis, although he had previously written of his good health. His parents have made every effort to solve the discrepancy between private correspondence and this official statement. Roy Colgrave, as a member of the Lefroy Rifle Club, gave promise of developing into a first class marksman. Mrs Colgrave has been informed by Y.M.C.A officials that the grave of her son Roy, in Hamburg, where he died a prisoner of war has been noted for future identification The Weekly Courier 19th September 1918
