Collis, Albert Edward

 

 

 

Born 17th October 1894 Brighton Tasmania the son of Nicholas and Mary Jane Collis a labourer he embarked Melbourne 25th October 1916 on board “HMAT Ulysses” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He died 21st September 1917 at the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and forehead and was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. ALBERT EDWARD COLLIS

His brother Francis Joseph Collis (No 6818) who enlisted on the same day died at Sutton Veny Hospital from tuberculosis and was buried in the Sutton Veny (St John) Churchyard, United Kingdom.

The two boys were also commemorated in St Mathew’s Church Pontville by two stained glass windows dedicated to their memory by their father which unfortunately were destroyed by a fire when the church was completely gutted in 1927.
