James Andrew Connor, was born on 18th September 1891 at Oatlands, Tasmania, the 2nd of six children.He attended the Convent School at Oatlands according to his army enlistment papers.The family were raised in a small farming community and James became a labourer and gardener until he enlisted in the army. He sign an oath to join the Army at Claremont, Tasmania on 3rd December, 1914, following the outbreak of Work War 1. James Andrew Connor, was born on 18th September 1891 at Oatlands, Tasmania, the son of John and Elizabeth Connor (nee Sutton) of Epping, a labourer he departed Melbourne 2nd February 1915 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray” with the 12th Battalion.

 Lance Corporal Connor served in Gallipoli and Egypt but died in France 19th October 1917 and was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
