Crawford, Edward
Born 29th March 1896 Hagley Tasmania to George and Sarah Ann Crawford (nee Jordon) he was a Brass finisher when he enlisted. He was one of 5 sons who enlisted, three of whom never returned home. He was serving with the 3rd. Brigade Australian Field Artillery when he was wounded in action and later died from these wounds. Mr. and Mrs. G. Crawford of Burnie received advice through the Rev. J. Tryon Wilson on Wednesday evening that their son Edward, had died of wounds on October 21. 'Ned' left Tasmanian on October 20 1914, in the Geelong, the first ship from Tasmania, so that he saw the great landing on Gallipoli on April 25 1915, but did not actually land on the Peninsula. He was one of the first to go to France, as he landed at Marseilles on April 1, 1916 and had been at the front ever since This is the second son this family has lost, as 'Bob' was killed at Fleurs on November 14. 1916. Two other sons are still at the front, whilst the youngest and last son is now at Maribyrnong Camp The North Western Advocate 10th November 1916
