Cross Sydney Robert
Portrait of 1011 Private (Pte) Sydney Robert Cross, 7th Battalion from Huon, Tasmania. A 26 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 19 September 1914, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Hobart on 20 October 1914 aboard HMAT Geelong. He was wounded in action during the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April and evacuated to a hospital ship where he died of his wounds on 27 April 1915. Pte Cross was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
