Mr. George Dale, of Lower Longley has received the following letter from Capt. L. E. Burt of the 12th Battalion –

I wish to express the deepest sympathy of the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of C Company, 12th Battalion, in the loss of your son No. 7,477, Pte. L. D. Dale. He was very popular amongst his comrades and his loss is keenly felt. He was killed instantly by a shell and suffered no pain. He and others hit by the same shell were buried today (May 2, 1918). Capt.-Chaplain Hayden conducted a most impressive burial service. The commanding officer (Lieut.-Colonel Elliott, D.S.O. ) and many officers, non-commissioned officers, and men attended the ceremony, which was conducted with military honours. The 'Last Post' was sounded over the grave. "
