Davis Cecil Harold Born Christchurch New Zealand the son of H J and Sophia Davis a fruit grower living in Huonville Tasmania he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Light Horse Brigade. He was killed in action 15th April 1917 at Bullecourt France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. HUONVILLE SOLDIER KILLED Today information was received that Pte. Cecil H. Davis, who was one of the first soldiers to enlist from Huonville has been killed in action in France. At the time of his enlistment Pte Davis was in the employ of Mr Reg. Smith. He was an extremely popular citizen, being always ready to help others whenever the opportunity came for him to do so. At flood time he was one of the most daring and successful rescuers in the district, never considering his own safety when others were imperilled. Pte. Davis fought through the Boer war, was all through the Gallipoli campaign, including the fight at Lonesome Pine and saw some very strenuous fighting in France before he made the supreme sacrifice. His relatives live in Victoria. Huon Times 11th May 1917
