Dent, Laurence Joseph
Born 1895 Ulverstone Tasmania the son of Joseph and Emily Ellen Dent (nee Mumford) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 23rd September 1916 on board “HMAT Seang Choon” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 13th October 1917 when hit by a shell at Passchendaele Ridge and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Rev. H. C. Trebilco yesterday conveyed to Mrs. E. Dent, Main street, Ulverstone, the news that her son, Pte. L J Dent had been reported killed in action on October 13, 1917. Pte Dent had been previously reported as missing. This soldier was a member of the 40th Battalion, and was 23 years of age, June 18 being his birthday
