Derrick, John Walter
Born 26th May 1888 Richmond Tasmania the son of Joseph Samuel and Catherine Derrick (nee Kane) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 29th March 1916 on board RMS Orontes with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He was killed in action 8th June 1917 in Belgium when he was shot by a sniper and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium DERRICK. -Of your charity, pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Private John Walter Derrick, killed in action in France, June the 8th, 1917, eldest dearly loved son of the late Joseph Derrick and the late Catherine Goodey. Bravely he fought and fell. R.I.P.
