Dobson, Sydney John

 Born 1897 Newcastle New South Wales but living in Latrobe Tasmania the son of Marcus and Louisa Dobson (nee Bates) a labourer he enlisted Claremont Tasmania and embarked Adelaide 1st April 1915 on board “HMAT Port Lincoln” with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment 4th Reinforcements. 

He was killed in action 8th August 1918 at Amiens in France and is commemorated in the Heath Cemetery, Picardie, France

 Mrs Arthur Von Schill of Latrobe has received the sad news that her brother Pte Syd Dobson had been killed in action on August 8th 1918.  Pte Dobson left Tasmania with the 3rd Light Horse and at the time of his death he was with the 4th Pioneer Battalion.  Private Dobson had seen three years seven months service.
