The son of Bridget Chapman of Magnet, a 22 year old mill hand working at Waratah he embarked with the 26th Battalion later transferring to the 12th Battalion. He was killed in action 6th October 1917 at Passchendaele and like others with no known grave is commemorated on the The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Belgium
