Duggan, Thomas Joseph

 

Born Pelverata Tasmania the son of Lawrence Francis and Frances Mary Fanny Duggan (nee Lisbon) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 24th November 1915 on board RMS Orontes with the 15th Infantry Battalion. 

Sgt Duggan was serving with the 47th Battalion when he was killed in action 12th October 1917 at Zonnebeke and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial. 

PELVERATA SOLDIER KILLED

News was received on Tuesday by Mrs Fanny Duggan of Pelverata, that her youngest son Sergt. Thomas Joseph Duggan M.M. of the 47th Battalion had been killed in action in France on the 12th October. Sergt Duggan enlisted in August 1915 and left Australia as a private. He won his stripes during the present year and was also awarded the Military Medal. His brother Pte F. L. Duggan of the 40th Battalion is still in France. Sergt Duggan was 22 years of age.
