WW1
Edwards, James Henry
James Henry EDWARDS was one of six sons of George Edwards and Hannah (nee Dodd) of Beulah who enlisted for service in WW1.James was in the 6th Battalion (2099, enlisted 14/09/1914). He was KIA Lone Pine 07/08/1915 and is buried in Beach cemetery, Anzac. Excerpts from 2 of his letters that he sent home appeared in the Examiner Newspaper. He talks about fighting the Turks with his mates and how he can't wait to get back to the front to help them. He makes it sound like a bit of a boys adventure. Tragically for his family when he died they were only told that he had been wounded. It wasn't until March of 1916 that they learnt of his fate after his sister wrote asking about her brothers and when would they be coming home. The Kentish Council also wrote on behalf of the family to the Army asking why it took 6 months for the family to be told that he had died. The response from the Army records was " it is one of those comparatively few cases which can only be attributed to the 'fog of war'". Notes by Helen Emmett
