Fairbrother Clement Joseph
Also known as Charles John Fairbrother He was born Elizabeth Town Tasmania to John and Elizabeth Fairbrother, a labourer who departed Sydney 4th September 1916 on board “HMAT Port Sydney” with the 33rd Infantry Battalion. On the 19th May 1917 he was transferred to the 10th Field Ambulance. He died at the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station from a gunshot wound to the head received in action and was buried Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France. Signaller C J Fairbrother of Elizabeth Town, Waratah and New South Wales was killed in action in France on July 1st. His father received the sad news on Saturday through the Church of England minister at Deloraine; also that his eldest son Sergeant F J Fairbrother who was reported missing on March 30 was a prisoner of war at Lemberg, Germany. The news was received through the Reverend D. B. Blackwood (chaplain) that he was leading a small squad in No Man’s Land when he went too far. His kit was found, but not his body and it was thought he might have been captured by a German patrol The Weekly Courier 19th July 1917
