Farnham, Vere

 

Born 6th September 1895 Smithton Tasmania the son of Giles and Elizabeth Maria Farnham (nee Edwards) he embarked Adelaide 16th December 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 4th Machine Gun Company.

He was serving with the 2nd Battalion Australian Machine Gun Corps when he was killed in action 3rd September 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, Amiens Harbonnieres Area, France.

His brother Pte Leslie Farnham (No 1039) was killed in action 30th April 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated in Quinn's Post Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.  

Mr. and Mrs. Giles Farnham, of Smithton received he sad news yesterday that their third son, Machine-Gunner Vere Farnham had made the supreme sacrifice Leslie, the eldest son, laid down his life for freedom's cause on Gallipoli. Claude, the second son, has returned home wounded. Vere enlisted as soon as he reached his majority. He had seen two years' service.
